SEPT 2022 MEETING NOTES

·      Welcome/introductions

o   Large group – lots of new K parents

 

·      Approval of minutes

o   Approval motion from June 2022 meeting

o   Minutes approved

 

·      Principals report

o   Survey went out to parents over summer – looking for suggestions, what was valued vs. not:

§  Opened bottom of driveway, staff member down on duty as well as a crossing guard. Parents have to be there by 3:20 and staff member opens up lot at 3:25 – improved procedure for safety

§  “You are Special” program for special areas open house (art, music, PE, library)– divide school by grades – working on developing this

§  Parent workshop on Friday afternoons as an effort to have events throughout the year to include parents/families- get them in school & classrooms more often

§  Expectations night – dinner outside, 2 sessions 6 & 6:45 – flexible on times

§  Student Council – Mrs. Ward will be sending out info on how to become representative and the possible election this year

§  Communication – new district website, streamline all info through the new website and app – calendar updates, dojo, twitter, etc to all eventually go through the app

 

·      Treasurer’s Report

o   Budget, $30k to fund PTO – field trips, busses, enrichment

§  Lost major fundraiser, SPS road race

§  Last year – big field day, extra recess items, magazine subscriptions, cafeteria mural

§  Starting at a loss this year

o   Funded teachers back to school lunch in August from Cedar Café

 

·      Upcoming events

o   Expectations night – 9/21 starting at 5pm for PTO cookout

§  Food orders through website – adding gluten free/vegetarian options

o   27th picture day

o   School store – 1st Friday of each month – starting October

o   Fall fest – new event, October 29th  @ 2-4pm **time change from 1-3

§  Trunk or treat

§  Frisbee golf

§  Pumpkin carving contest

§  Voting on favorite pumpkin/trunk – winners get to do morning announcements

§  Kids can wear costumes

o   November 18th – Boosterthon/Fun Run

§  Rain date, following Monday (11/21)

§  Kids run laps, shirts will have spots for check marks

§  Need volunteers to make checks

§  Fundraise in community for business/family sponsors

§  Theme – kids from all areas of globe – perseverance /try best

§  Late October – info will go out to families

o   Scoop night - Nona’s in fall and (possibly?) dribbles in spring

§  50% goes back to PTO

 

·      Presentation of Committees/Hatherly Helping Hands

o   Staff Appreciation – went over a list of items by month to describe what will be done for teachers over the year

o   Sign up genius will go out for parents for volunteers

o   Hatherly Helping Hands

o   Classroom parents – at expectations night there will be a sign up list, liaison to PTO

o   School Directory – room parents, hours, school calendar, entire staff list, each class broken down, families address/contact

o   Fall Fest – will need volunteers to decorate trunks, working at stations, etc.

o   Parents night out – moving to spring, possibly doing at Paragon

o   School kits- note that you have to order the kit before the end of the year

 

·      Fundraising Ideas

o   Fundraising committee – new idea

§  Think of new ideas for fundraising

§  Ways to donate: Amazon smiles, boxtops for education, employee match program

§  Penny wars,  etc.

o   Put out a communication for direct donations and employee match programs

 

·      Rising Tide presentation

o   Worked with CORSE, facts, shore, 3 out of 4 elementary schools (never Hatherly)

o   Holiday season program “wave of good” November and December orders 10% of profits to school PTO

o   Will be a box at checkout where you can select school for donation

o   Rising Tide will come up with flyer to get word out

 

·      Enrichment/field trips

o   PTO funds all enrichment/field trips

o   Ideas to Meg Cordeiro

o   Who Would Win series – Jerry Palotta – can come in December K&1, 2&3, 4&5

o   The Ned Show possibility – whole student body

o   Feedback from teachers on what they want to see

o   Field trips – have asked teachers for a list of  what they are planning on doing/requests

o   Freedom Trail – need a volunteer

 

·      Open question/comments

o   Sign up list went around – helping hands, any committees, etc.

o   Julie Ward mentioned need for diaper genie
