JUNE 2022 MEETING NOTES
· · Welcome/introductions
· Approval of minutes
o Lauren Shea gave a quick update of last meeting
o Minutes approved
· Principals report
o Mrs. Ward gave update
o We will not be able to use sunblock for field day
§ Parents and guardians are allowed to come and apply to their children, but not teachers/staff/other parents and guardians
§ Working to get tents for kids to be shaded in between stations
§ Moving a station inside for more time out of the sun
o Family night was a success
§ Nona’s ice cream truck was a hit
o 5th grade recognition day is next week on the blacktop
§ Siblings and parents/guardians are invited to come
· Treasurers report
o Christine Donovan gave update
§ Came into the year with a surplus
· Due to covid
· Made sure to spend additional funds
o More enrichment spending
o Recess supplies
o LCD screen
· Got rid of grade level funding and moved all funds into one pool called a mini grant fund
o Allowed PTO to spend more effectively
§ Spent $3000 above budget
· Nona’s ice cream truck
· 5th grade requests
§ Looking at next year
· Kept budget around the same
§ Lost some fundraisers
· SPS road race
· Low expenses on PNO
§ Going to go in at a loss
· This has been done in the past
· The funds have come through in years past to make up the loss
· Added extra in budget for teacher appreciation
· Increase for field day for next year
§ Amazon Smiles is an easy way to bring in funds
· Maybe have a table at expectation night/open house to advertise and help people add it to their phones/accounts
§ Company match also brings in some funds
· Another thing to remind people of
§ The PTO discussed reminding people they can send direct donations if they don’t want to give to specific fundraisers
o The PTO also discussed that people volunteering is just as important as direct donations/fundraiser contributions
o Jen Driscoll and Julie Long thanked Greg and Christine for being incredible treasurers and agreeing to stay on the board for another year
§ Christine requested someone to come on as a treasurer helper for next school year
· 5th grade recognition
o Mrs. Ward gave update
o 5th grade farewell is next week during the day
o Like teddy bear picnic but with a 5th grade twist
o 5th graders run/organize the event
· Teacher appreciation & enrichment
o Jen Driscoll gave update
o Has offered to stay on and run enrichment next year
o She would love to have someone take over teacher appreciation next year
§ First teacher appreciation event is the week before school starts
· Expectation night
o Mrs. Ward asked if we could have people grill/serve a dinner before expectation night as a way to bring the school together
· Fall fest/”Halloween party”
o Jess Gavin gave some ideas on a fall fest to have this year
§ Mrs Ward asked to have something in the evening for working families
§ Jen Driscoll reminded that it shouldn’t be expensive for families
· Field day!
o Julie Long gave update
§ Tshirts are ordered
§ Popsicles are ordered
§ Parents have signed up to volunteer
· Julie Long is now matching up volunteers to stations where their child will be
· We could use some more help in the afternoon
§ Mrs. Berton is having an art station in the lobby
§ Mrs. Hughes is having a music station
· Book fair & family night
o Julie Long gave update
§ Went very well
§ Went during the school day all week
§ Also happened during family night
§ A book swap was organized
· Students can bring in a book they no longer want before the end of the school year
· School store
o Jess Gavin gave update
o Year went great
o Maybe next year two bulk orders vs ordering monthly
o Meghan Rana and Katie Bacon will be committee members next year
· Approval of budget
o Greg Zuckerman asked that we try and order/put in requests ahead of time vs last minute
o Lauren Shea motion to approve 2022 – 2023 budget
o Unanimous approval
· Thanks to board members/approval of new board!
o Julie Long and Jen Driscoll said thank you to helpful people in the PTO
§ Thank you Mrs. Ward for everything you do to help and support the PTO!
§ Thank you Mrs. Henry and Ms. Otto for being teacher liaisons
